Definition Tab Updated

Posted on 03 October 2017
A staggering 96% of those surveyed by application platform, KnowledgeKube, identified that more than a quarter of their processes were inefficient.

The Definition tab now includes a contextual sidebar that makes it easier to manage the questions in a model. This sidebar is optional, but it is switched on by default. It consists of two tabs.

The first sidebar tab, which appears by default, is named Tile View. This presents a column of tiles, each presenting information about a question group in the current model, such as its type, how many questions it contains, whether it is split into multiple columns, and whether it has geolocation enabled. The model’s startup group, as in the main designer grid, will be highlighted with a green stripe.

The second tab in the sidebar is known as the Toolbox View. It contains a list of icons representing types of question that can be added to the model.

By default, the types of question displayed by the toolbox will depend on the type of question group you currently have selected. Since you can drag new questions to any group regardless of current selection, you can turn question type filtering off if you prefer.

You can use the toolbox to quickly add questions, either by selecting a group and clicking the question type you need, or by dragging the type of question you need onto the intended question group in the designer grid. Both methods will save the model after creating the question and any necessary attributes

If you use the toolbox to create a question that depends on another type of question to work – such as Full Text Search – KnowledgeKube will offer to add the corresponding question. If you accept, both new questions will automatically be configured to work with one another.

You can prevent such prompts in future by ticking the checkbox at the bottom of the dialog.

Alternatively, you can turn the prompts off by un-ticking the relevant check box in the Model Panel of the KnowledgeKube Options dialog.

A button at the top of the new sidebar lets you quickly add new question groups to the current model. After clicking this button, the process for creating the new group is the same as in the previous version of KnowledgeKube.

The Definition tab’s main toolbar has been updated to include two new buttons named Navigation Settings and Information. It now also contains buttons for accessing the selected model’s Data Sources, Actions, and Documents.

The Navigation Settings button opens a dialog that lets you toggle the new sidebar on or off, and toggle whether the toolbox view should only display question types relevant to the currently-selected question group. It also lets you specify which tab should appear when you access a model – Your Model is the default option, but you can specify the Definition tab instead if you prefer.

The Information button opens a dialog containing summary details about the model, including its name and active period. From here, you can edit the model’s properties or copy them to the clipboard for reference.

Many of the contextual options previously found above the Definition tab have been moved to a new vertical toolbar on the right-hand side of that tab. These let you interact with the currently selected content item, for example by accessing its Properties tab, assigning it an Attribute, or editing its expression using the Expression Editor. You can also use this toolbar to add a new Question or Response, Import questions based on a data source or CSV list, and change the Order of the content in the selected question group.
